The 2025 Davis Cup Finals now have their full lineup, but not without some major upsets as two of the tournament’s most storied nations, the USA and Australia, were eliminated in a dramatic weekend of qualifying ties. Joining hosts Italy in the Final 8 are Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Czechia, France, Germany and Spain.
The biggest shock came in Sydney, where Belgium pulled off a stunning 3-2 victory over a heavily-favored Australian team. After a quick start that saw Belgium take a commanding 2-0 lead on Day 1, the Aussies, led by Alex de Minaur, mounted an expected comeback. De Minaur, who had been upset in his opening singles match, redeemed himself with a convincing victory to level the tie at 2-2 after a crucial doubles win. However, in the deciding rubber, Raphael Collignon, the hero of Day 1, once again rose to the occasion, defeating Aleksandar Vukic to seal the win for Belgium.
Meanwhile, on American soil, the Czech Republic managed a thrilling comeback of their own to knock out the United States. Trailing 2-1 after the Americans secured a hard-fought doubles win, Czechia’s young talents, Jiri Lehecka and Jakub Mensik, delivered when it mattered most. Lehecka, despite having a losing record against Taylor Fritz, outlasted the American in a three-set thriller to force a deciding match. Mensik then sealed the deal with a dominant victory over Frances Tiafoe, leaving the 32-time champions out of the Bologna finals.
Other qualifiers included:
- Argentina who secured a convincing 3-1 victory over the Netherlands.
- Austria who edged out Hungary 3-2 in a tightly contested tie.
- France who defeated Croatia 3-1.
- Germany who had a clean sweep, defeating Japan 4-0.
- Spain who completed a miraculous comeback against Denmark after trailing 0-2, to win the tie 3-2 and book their place in the Finals.

With these dramatic results, the field is set for the 2025 Davis Cup Finals to be held in Bologna, Italy, from November 18-23. The seven qualified teams will join defending champions and hosts Italy for a chance to lift the trophy.
