FANtium has created a very interesting platform for tennis fans to connect, fund and invest in future stars on the tour. This platform allows us tennis nerds to buy digital tokens on a blockchain based system, tied to players prize money, offering both possible financial returns and exclusive perks.

Right now it’s a great opportunity to try out FANtium as they are running a campaign together with legendย Dominic Thiem, up until 26th May, where you have the chance to win some really decent prizes, including Grand Slam tickets or a signed Thiem jersey.

Sign up at FANtium here to take part in this exclusive campaign. To find out more about this offer and how the platform works, just continue reading below!

What Is FANtium?

FANtium is a sports investment platform where fans purchase non-fungible tokens (NFTs) representing a share of an athleteโ€™s future earnings (primarily players prize money) and at times get access to unique experiences. Founded by Jonathan Ludwig, the company has raised close to $2M in seed funding since October 2022. Currently focused on tennis but expanding to other sports, FANtium has supported players from 14 countries, raised over $500K and redistributed around $160K of the prize money back to investors.

Apart from being a good investment opportunity for fans, this platform addresses a key issue for the players. Many young tennis players, especially those outside the ATP/WTA top 150, struggle to cover costs like coaching, travel, tournament fees and other surrounding costs. FANtium lets athletes “tokenise” a portion of their future expected earnings, selling these to fans to fund their careers. Fans, in turn, can profit if the player succeeds and at the same time enjoy perks like tournament access or private chats.

How It Works

FANtiumโ€™s process is straightforward, and it’s all based on blockchain tech for secure and fully transparent transactions.

  • Athletes Create Tokens: Players offer “season tokens” (tied to one seasonโ€™s prize money) or “career tokens” (covering earnings and sometimes sponsorships over a set period, often up to 10 seasons). The tokenโ€™s share percentage depends on the tier purchased.
  • Fans Invest: Supporters buy tokens directly from athletes on their site, using credit cards, digital “crypto” wallets, or other options via third party services. Basically, it’s not necessary to have experience of using crypto/blockchain apps previously.
  • Earnings and Payouts: When athletes win prize money (typically after reaching the top 150), token holders receive their share in USDC.e, a dollar-backed digital currency on the Polygon blockchain, convertible to standard currencies like USD or EUR. Payouts can be claimed after earnings accrue. You can also sell your tokens on open marketplaces, such as OpenSea, at anytime.
  • Perks: Each token comes with a digital artwork collectible and fan benefits, such as private chats, tournament tickets, Q&A sessions or similar. For instance, Croatian star Lucija Ciric Bagaricโ€™s investors get access to her teamโ€™s updates and other giveaways.

So, FANtium doesnโ€™t mint, sell or trade tokens itself. they only provide the technical infrastructure for the athletes to issue them themselves, this way they are not directly handling the user funds. Everything is very transparent. Also important to note, the tokens will remain on the blockchain, meaning fan-athlete connections remain even if FANtium would cease operations in the future.

Current FANtium Campaign

FANtium is now running a raffle campaign, until 26 May 2025, 23,59 CET, and you can get different entries into the raffle as below:

  • 1x ENTRY – Just sign-up at FANtium, before the deadline. Make sure your account is verified.
  • 10x ENTRIES – Buy any athlete token during the campaign.

What can you win?

  • 4x Grand Slam tickets – 2 winners get 2 tickets
  • 1 fan will win a signed Thiem jersey
  • 5 fans will win $100 credits to invest in FANtium

The idea of owning a slice of a playerโ€™s prize money, and at the same time have a connection with the player and the team, is appealing for many. But you need to weigh the risks, not every player will enter the top 150. If you believe in a rising star, this could be a fun and rewarding way to join their team.
