World No. 1 Jannik Sinner has officially ended his 2026 tennis season, opting to shut down the remainder of his campaign to focus on treatment and recovery from an ongoing knee problem.
The Italian superstar hasn’t played a competitive match since July 12, when he secured a four-set victory over Alexander Zverev to successfully defend his Wimbledon title. Sinner’s remarkable 2026 season ends with a 44-3 record, a 93.6% match-winning rate, five ATP Masters 1000 titles, and his fifth Grand Slam crown at the All England Club.
However, a knee injury has kept him sidelined since Wimbledon, forcing him to miss the North American hard-court swing, the US Open and the Asian swing.
In a video message released to his fans on social media, Sinner confirmed that he and his doctors have decided that he needs a dedicated course of treatment.
Terrible news, yet another top ranked player out for a huge part of the season. Something has to change on the tour.

“Me, together with the doctors, have decided that I need a course of treatment for my knee, which means that the 2026 season is officially over.”
The decision means Sinner will also miss the upcoming European indoor hard-court swing and the ATP Finals in Turin, where he has captured the title in each of the previous two years.
“The last couple of years, especially the ending in Turin, gave me so many beautiful feelings and emotions, which this year is going to be way different,” Sinner said. “But at the moment, I also need to think about my long-term career, so I will do everything possible to get back a hundred percent.”
According to a statement from Sinner’s team, the world No. 1 will follow a course of treatment for inflammation in his knee. The decision was made to begin treatment now, giving him the necessary time to recover before starting preparations for the 2027 season.
“I will thank you already in advance for your support and hope to see you very, very soon on court again,” Sinner concluded.
