The GAMMA Airbender 16 Pickleball paddle has by many been described as very special and unique to play with. Let’s look a bit closer at the details of the Airbender and what it can offer.

Most new pickleball paddles are being marketed with some new design or feature that sounds revolutionary, most of times it’s not really the case though. For the Gamma Airbender 16, one of the things we first heard about was the customisation options where you can place various weights on the throat (shockbusters) or with weighted end-caps.

Unique customisability

The shockbusters, the Zorbicon Shockbuster gel, come in a pack of three, all with different weights. It might not sound like much but it makes a difference and they are really made well. Depending on your playing style you can find the best balance of power and comfort with the correct weight. They also help with minimising vibration.

Right now they are available in the three weights: 3g, 6g or 9g. Hopefully in the future there will be even more options and heavier Shockbusters to try out. This is the first try at this kind of customisation for a paddle and it might not be 100% perfect yet, when looking at weight options and the fit, but definitely worth a try.

When it comes to the weighted end-caps, they also come in three different weights, the same as the shockbusters (3g, 6g and 9g). The end-caps are a great way to experience with the balance of the paddle without changing the general swing weight. Note though that these are a little harder to change quickly.

Both of these weight options can improve parts of your game, and it’s an interesting concept. Don’t expect a huge difference when changing between the weights, but it can prevent you from using lead tape for example.

Great control

The general control with this paddle is really good and you’ll notice it quickly at dink or drop shots. The sweet spot is big and it’s rather easy to get power in the shots even if it gets a bit stiff at serves and power shots.

The Toray T700 Raw Carbon Fiber Face make sure you get enough ball spin with great control.
