Why Don’t They Use Hawk-Eye On Clay?

Written by: Jonas Eriksson | June 6, 2013

I wrote a little letter to Mr Roland Garros today. It asked the question Why They Don’t Use Hawk-Eye On Clay. I’m not sure they have an answer. Below you find the letter.

Dear Mr. Roland Garros,

You run a great and noble tournament, but to be honest with you I’ve seen too many matches with unclear calls being debated by the players and the umpire. Tradition can’t keep the game from being fairer and (arguably) more entertaining for the crowds and less frustrating for the players. So please Mr Roland Garros, install a Hawk-eye system for the French Open. Then players won’t have to take mobile photo evidence of bad calls and unclear ball marks and your umpires can stay in their chairs and enjoy the French spring.

Merci.
